London Morris, First grade student at Douglass Academy, excitedly decorates her cupcake with pink sprinkles during the “Awesome April” end of month incentive party. Each month students who stay on green for good behavior are invited to an elaborate party organized by the school. Party themes have included March Madness, dancing, and movies. The final party of the year is scheduled for the end of May and looks to be the biggest one yet!

Located in downtown Wilmington at 6th and Red Cross Streets, Douglass Academy is in its fifth year as a school of choice having a program of classical education for kindergarten through 5th grade. Douglass Academy is one of four public charter schools managed by The Roger Bacon Academy, Inc. The schools include Charter Day School in Leland, Columbus Charter School in Whiteville, and South Brunswick Charter School in Southport. Douglass Academy is a tuition-free, public charter school that welcomes all students, regardless of income, ability, or address, and provides free transportation and meal services.
