Chorus

The RBA middle school chorus is comprised of 6th through 8th grade students interested in learning about and practicing vocal music.  Students in this class work on a variety of music throughout the year ranging from art songs, holiday music from various cultures, and even contemporary Broadway and popular music.  These students are asked throughout various times in the year to participate in singing at community events such as patriotic rallies, performing at the Brunswick County Courthouse, and even traveling in the Spring to choral competitions at Carowinds and Busch Gardens.  Additionally, students learn about proper vocal production, Solfege (and Kodaly hand signals), and leadership within a group setting.  Students spend a great deal of time on their group singing skills, but are also encouraged to participate in singing solos and small groups.  Students may also audition to participate in one of the two honor’s choirs outside of class time!  Many of these students go above and beyond to develop and utilize their vocal music talents.

Band

The RBA band program consists of students grade 6th through 8th who are seeking to learn the craft of playing an instrument.  Currently, all instrumentalists (beginning through advanced) meet together twice a week to practice their instruments while seeking the advice and help of both their teachers and their peers!  Instruments in the RBA band include flute, trumpet, saxophone, guitar, percussion, and clarinet.  The more advanced students in this class also have the opportunity to participate in an auditioned honors band that meets outside of class time.  The students work hard to help each other strengthen their musical skills and even give up their “free time” (lunch, recess and Fun Friday) to practice. It is this dedication that exhibits the school pledge and represents the values of Charter Day School each and every day!
