Football
The Roger Bacon Academy proudly sponsors the RBA Vikings Athletic Association, in affiliation with the Coastal Pop Warner Football League out of Wilmington, N.C. The Vikings were established in 2005 focusing on, but not limited to, the students of the Roger Bacon Academy. In the 2011 season, the Vikings have grown to over 250 athletes participating in competitive, and non-competitive football and cheerleading. Our five football, and five cheer teams serve athletes from Brunswick and Columbus county ranging in age from five to fifteen years old. It is our mission to create a safe, structured program that focuses on growing our athletes in the fundamentals of the game, while building character, determination, and discipline. RBA’s pledge to build it’s students in body, mind, and spirit is in perfect partnership with the Pop Warner Little Scholars, Inc. whose mission states that “athletics and academics go hand in hand”. Our hope is that our investment in our athletes will pay dividends throughout the duration of their lifetimes.
Pop Warner Football
Pop Warner football has been around since the inception of the league in 1929 by founder Joseph J. Tomlin as a four-team conference in Northeast Philadelphia. Since then, participation has steadily increased to today’s record numbers. Over 240,000 youths participated in Pop Warner-sanctioned football programs in 2004, and those numbers are continuing to grow.
SAFETY FIRST:
Kids compete with kids of similar age and size. Pop Warner is the ONLY youth football program (local, regional and national) that sets and enforces a strict AGE & WEIGHT MATRIX that reduces the risk and reality of injuries. Did you know that Pop Warner football is safer than soccer? Pop Warner football has 12% fewer injuries per capita among 5-15 year olds than organized soccer in the same age range! (U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, NEISS)
2010 – RBA Football player Forrest Kelley selected to play in Football University’s National Youth All-American Bowl held at the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX
2011 – Pop Warner Midget Football – Coastal Division Champions
