Amari Green – 4th grade student at Douglass Academy – proudly hoists his solar system project in front of class. The class made models of the solar system and presented key facts about one of its planets.

Ms. Sauls, the 4th grade teacher commented, “I’m so proud of all the great work my students contributed to this project! Their creativity and artistic talents have really shown through!”

Located in downtown Wilmington at 6th and Red Cross Streets, Douglass Academy is in its fifth year as a school of choice having a program of classical education for kindergarten through 5th grade.  With parents in North Carolina having the freedom to choose – tuition free – where their children are educated, Douglass Academy is a public charter school that draws nearly 200 students from the greater Wilmington community.

Douglass Academy is one of four public charter schools managed by The Roger Bacon Academy, Inc. The schools include Charter Day School in Leland, Columbus Charter School in Whiteville, and South Brunswick Charter School in Southport. Douglass Academy is a tuition-free, public charter school that welcomes all students, regardless of income, ability, or address, and provides free transportation and meal services.
