Barbra Jones Recomendation Douglass sqrState Board of Education will now vote on applications

Two New Hanover County education groups received the latest state-level stamps of approval this week in their journey to open new charter schools.

The Roger Bacon Academy and Cape Fear Village Montessori went before the state’s Public Charter School Advisory Council this week to answer questions about their applications. Both groups now move on to the state Board of Education, which will decide in September on which proposals will become charter schools.

The pair are part of the second round of charter school applications since the state lifted its cap on the number of charter schools last June. About 60 groups submitted applications in April, and 30 moved on to interviews this week.

Both groups were able to present their plans and respond to questions from the advisory council in the meetings.
